Environmentally, everything should be reachable within 10 minutes by foot or bike the Marys Landing project would get the perfect place to implement this practice, combining houses, apartments (with at least 20 percent of them affordable) and local businesses surrounded by green spaces. We need a sustainability coordinator hired and included in all growth discussions!!!!!

I think you hit the nail on the head sir. Having spent time overseas, you see in many parts of the UK and Europe the hub and spoke you mentioned. It makes sense. I think by having walkable markets, restaurants, and services you can as you mention cut down on traffic, and also does wonders for your health walking. But alot of Americans are lazy and don't want to walk to get places. We are a nation of convenience and that convenience has made us unhealthy on so many levels.

I'm not lazy and I'd love to walk to all these things but I live in a community of houses where there is nothing to walk to. Only downtown provides that kind of space here and it's pretty crowded already.

To me the nothing to walk to is a problem. I think the Board of Supervisors should be incorporating retail, restaurants and such into subdivisions like some of the newer spaces downtown that have that.

Also, it's bad for small business. I just drove to Affogato, a coffee and pastry shop in a strip mall on Route 3 near Tractor Supply. Everything they make is from scratch, it's a nice shop to be in, and they get good reviews. But nobody was there. It's not the kind of place that can make it from the occasional driver. Businesses need foot traffic too.

I love that place! I so agree. They would do so well somewhere with alot of foot traffic. I also have heard store owners downtown speaking to how high rents have gotten downtown. The City and County should offer some incentives to small businesses not just the chains. The money would stay local and by taxes and employment, stay in the City/County.

Yes, I agree. High rents are always a problem in downtown regions and that's how chains wind up taking over. But not everyone can fit downtown. We need things on the outskirts too!

I completely agree. Downtown can't be the only place.

I would love it
