The Republican Forum in Fredericksburg Thursday night offered insights into the range of opinions within the party around foreign affairs – and a few fireworks.
Okay, imagine this. You're the home team. Top of the 1st. You take the field, then immediately turn around and face the outfield. And wonder why your players keep getting hit in the back of the head with the ball. And then later the bat. Until your team is utterly destroyed.
All while you smirk in triumph because you insisted that no one talk about the rampaging elephant in the room.
The danger is not from the Chinese. Nor the Russians. Vlad Putin could not have landed two divisions on the West Coast and done near the damage to this country that the Republican party has done in the last decade.
Allies mocked and deserted. Credit rating downgraded. Principles gutted at every turn.
Protector of the weak? Tell that to the children caged to torment their parents.
Rule of law? Tell that to the cops beaten down in their attempted coup. As they refuse to even promise this time that they won't do it again.
They're pro-life enough to lock up a woman for not dying to suit them, but not enough to cover their mouth when they cough.
"Patriots" who follow a draft dodger who attacks those who served with honor.
And open promises of dictatorship if returned to power.
And their biggest concern is someone opening Paul Manafort's mail and finding a note between Putin and their God of the Golden Toilet.
