I am confused. Was Hugh Mercer school named after the Hugh Mercer in this article (born in Scotland in 1726 and died in Princeton in 1177) or his grandson with the same name who was a general in the Confederacy (born in Fredericksburg in 1808) and died in 1877 in Baden-Baden, Germany?
Hugh Weedon Grant was the grandson; I have only seen the grandfather’s name as Hugh Mercer.
Interesting about the 2 of them. Both soldiers, one died 1777 and the other in 1877. I didn’t even know there were 2 until I read your article. Great piece and one that got me thinking. Thank you for it and for answering my question! I’ve always look forward to seeing your name in the Advance.

Oops, typo. Hugh Mercer the grandfather died in 1777, not 1177! My apologies!
Thank you! I always appreciate the current news you share with us.
