While our area, like so many others in the US, are experiencing severe shortages of a affordable housing, many people are joyous that the value of their homes has increased. An interesting world we live in.

I lost value on my first home before/during the housing crisis in 2008ish. Ended up short selling, and I was a lucky one. So TBH, I am happy my new place has increased in value some.

I don’t love that I’m stuck here due to interest rates though. I don’t think we will see an exact repeat of what we saw in the 00s, the banks were largely to blame there. But something is brewing and people will need to be bailed out again. Or will it be the big companies buying up property? 🤨 I don’t know what the next housing crisis will exactly look like but… what’s going on now isn’t sustainable.

I saw homelessness in the suburbs of Fairfax County for the first time in ‘08. Since moving down here, there have been more people asking for money along Rt 3 each year.

Homelessness is a constant that has been a growing problem since the housing crisis was “dealt with.” People still cant afford the roofs over their heads. Too many are one major problem away from losing it. Still.
