Thank you for the insightful summation of the conditions in Stafford County as well as others.

But (and yes, feel free to disregard everything before the but), I would posit that the unwillingness of folks such as yourself to assign blame, when blame is surely due, is as much a part of the problem as the dereliction of duty that led to the unnecessary and rising costs.

There has been one party, that for at least 2 generations, has wrapped itself in denial. That you get something for nothing, it will "trickle down", or whatever mantra is selling this week.

And they have succeeded, at every level, by kicking the can down the road, whilst doing just enough to get by when a wheel gets squeaky. And acting like they've accomplished something.

Businesses would be left by the side of the road by their competition if they negligently deferred maintenance in such a manner. You address the benefits we receive from these citizen paid for investments clearly.

So why be afraid to equally address the cause?

Silence for the sake of comity does little good. Just gives wiggle room to those who will once again do the same, because they've learned that even when systems fail as a result of their negligence, they will always have defenders such as yourself insisting that we all look the other way.

Accountability.

Not a four letter word, so maybe we ought to use it more often, eh?
