Stafford County sent out postcards this week reminding residents that early voting in the November election starts next week—but provided the incorrect start date.
“The postcard was sent with an incorrect date,” registrar Anna Hash wrote in an email to the Advance. “Early voting begins on Sept. 20, not Sept. 19. A new post card will be sent to residents with the corrected date.”
Virginia Code states that absentee and early in person voting can begin 45 days prior to Election Day, which this year is Tuesday, November 5. Early voting can continue until the Saturday before Election Day.
According to the Virginia Department of Elections, early voting this year begins on September 20.
Stafford residents can vote early in person at the registrar’s office—124 Old Potomac Church Road, Suite 205—Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., starting Friday, September 20, and running through Friday, November 1.
There are two early voting Saturdays, October 26 and November 2.
Hash said the new postcards should be going out Friday and that the total cost of printing and sending the postcards was about $17,000.
