And the winner of the Best Pizza Award Is ….
Who would have thought that something as simple as a slice of pizza would create so much debate? (Answer - We did. That’s why we asked the question.)
In addition to the 11 pizza shops we listed for people to vote for, a brick-oven load (12, to be exact) of other shops received write-in nominations.
Among the write-in candidates, Tapa Rio in Fredericksburg collected the most support (5 people wrote-in this river-front favorite). The next-most-popular write-in vote-getter was Parthenon in Fredericksburg.
F2S gave both restaurants a try this week, and we have to agree that each has excellent pizza. However, neither shook us from our choice for No. 1, which also happened to be the restaurant receiving the most overall votes in our survey. (Seriously - we had already selected the winner before running the survey. You’ll just have to take our word for it.)
To our way of thinking, there’s no such thing as a bad pizza, and every pie-maker that received a vote deserves their day in the sun. So we have listed them all in order from fewest votes to most.
If you’re planning to eat out tonight, and pizza’s what you’re craving, here are 23 great options for you to choose from in

Primavera Pizza (Fredericksburg)
We can’t speak for the majority who selected Primavera, but we can speak for ourselves. All the cliches apply at Primavera - great crust, fresh ingredients, lots of toppings. But one thing sets this pizza pie apart from all the others.
The cheese.
It’s not uber-gooey like Mozzarella, or too strong like fresh Parmesan. Not too sharp like cheddar. It’s the Goldilocks’ cheese - Just right.
And the rest of the menu soars is just right, too.
In a downtown filled with good Italian restaurants, this modest jewel at 600 William Street is - according to us and our readers - the hands-down best pie-maker in town.
