A second-grade teacher at Spotswood Elementary School in Spotsylvania County was arrested on Thursday for “felony possession of schedule I/II narcotics, felony child endangerment, and felony child neglect or abuse,” according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.
“Suspected narcotics” — which Maj. Troy Skebo with the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office described to the Advance as “white powder substance” — were also found in the teacher’s classroom, according to the press release.
The school resource officer found the teacher, 35, to be “under the influence of drugs” yesterday afternoon, according to the press release.
The teacher’s husband, 34, was also found in a vehicle in the school’s parking lot “under the influence of suspected narcotics.” He required medical attention. A 2-year-old child was also found in the vehicle.
The husband was arrested and charged with felony child endangerment and felony child neglect or abuse. He is being held in Rappahannock Regional Jail under a $5,000 bond.
The teacher is also being held in the jail under no bond.
“No students reported injuries or exposure, but were checked by medical personnel out of abundance of caution and the classroom was professionally cleaned,” the press release states.
“The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Spotsylvania Social Services and School Administration.”

This is so sad on a number of fronts. Our county’s education system is struggling and this is one of the last things I want to hear happening. I’m glad the students only have a few days left; I can’t imagine the headache of finding a new instructor 😞
